Behavioral Parent Training (BPT)
Behavioral Parent Training (BPT; sometimes referred to as parent management training) is considered a gold-standard behavioral treatment for ADHD and other behavior concerns. BPT is typically recommended for children between the ages of 3-13 and focuses on helping parents to develop positive discipline strategies including:
Increasing effectiveness of commands
Shifting from negative attention (e.g., yelling) to positive attention
Developing behavior reinforcement strategies
Responding to challenging behaviors calmly and effectively
Decreasing power struggles
Differentiating between behaviors that can be ignored and behaviors that require a response
Developing appropriate consequences for behaviors that cannot be ignored
Improving communication within the family
Parent Behavior Management Training Promotes Positive Family Dynamics
It can be challenging for the entire family dynamic when one child displays difficult behaviors, and it is very common to experience strained relationships within the family as a result.
Our extensive experience providing BPT in both individual and group settings allows us to flexibly adapt strategies to meet your individual family’s needs while also promoting more positive family dynamics.
